Can anyone post the reason for this??
which of following os not ah example of pseudo unimoleculer reactions
a)ch3cooc2h5+h2o gives (in presence of h+) ch3cooh+c2h5oh
b)same reaction in presence of oh-
c)c12h22011+h2o giving c6h12o6 in presence of h+

Basic hydrolysis of ester, or saponification, is a second order reaction..follows acyl nucleophilic subs mech..maybe something in the mech that makes it second order?
Normally , pseudo unimoleculer reactions are irreversible , due to presence of one reactant in excess as a result of which equilibrium shifts in forward direction. But , if a reaction doesn't require one of the reactants in excess , then it would not be a pseudo reaction.
in the second reaction , the presence of basic medium easily replaces C2H50- group and forms the acid releasing the ethoxide ion . thus , the slightly basic medium cn do the job.thus , its a second order reaction.
