in C2O42-

oxidation number of carbon is +3,...in CO2,its +4

so where is reduction taking place???

arrey, so sorry sourav....how come i never saw tht,took it fr granted .....but if there's no reduction, the reaction isn't possible..

i donot know how reduction does not take place--

see first first u need to balance the carbon atoms---in reduction there is change in oxidation number of 2 form +6 to +4 in C

@rocky, In oxalate ion, Each C is in +3 Oxid.n state n not +6.

AVIK.. this is just a half reaction ... not the full one.. as everything's getting oxidised here which is not possible in a single complete reaction..

the question just asks info abt the particular reaction given
