GOD !!! NO ONE for an NCERT Chem question ????
calculate the solubility of silver benzoate in a buffer of pH=3.19 .
K(sp) of C6H5COOAg = 6.46 x 10-5
Doubt:
In solution as it is given :
C6H5COOAg → C6H5COO- + Ag+
C6H5COOH → C6H5COO- + H+
here let solubility of silver benzoate in buffer be y.
Now they are saying:
"Hence [Ag]+ = y and [C6H5COO]- + [C6H5COOH] = y
WHAT THE HELL IS : [C6H5COO]- + [C6H5COOH] = y ?

this is simple
C6H5COOAg → C6H5COO- + Ag+
y-z y
C6H5COO- + H+→ C6H5COOH
y-z a-z z
so the result
