i 've got C.N. as 4 for both but it is 6 for MgO and 4 for MgS......
Given that the radius of Mg2+ , O2- , S2- are 0.65A , 1.41A, 1.84A respectively.
what will be the co-ordinaion no. of Mg2+ in MgO and MgS respectively.
y isn't the ans same?????

hint : look at radius ratios and see what coordination no. do u get for that value of radius ratio

see for Mgo the radius ratio is 0.47 approxmitalely itz for CN=6 from 0.41 and for the other itz surely 4 only ............
