x/40 = tan[θ+arctan(1/2)]
x/120= tanθ
Will you get answer if you solve these equations?
A vertical pole consists of two portions, the lower being 1/3rd of the whole. If the upper portion subtends an angle arctan(1/2) at a point in a horizontal plane through the foot of the plane and distance 40ft from it,then the height of the pole is ________
This sum is easy, but i couldn't understand its geometry !!!!!!!!
Thanx Nishant bhaiyyah. How 2 proceed after this?
P.S:
Aragorn please :)
x/40 = tan[θ+arctan(1/2)]
x/120= tanθ
Will you get answer if you solve these equations?
x/40 = tan[θ+arctan(1/2)]
x/40 = ( tan θ + 1/2 )/ (1-1/2 tan θ)
x/120= tanθ
Substitute tan θ above!
x/40 = (x/120 + 1/2) / (1-1/2.x/120)
this is a quadratic in x... just solve it :)
