15C3 means number of ways of chossong 3 different balls out of 5 balls. Whereas, 5C1x4C1x3C1 means number of ways in which they 3 balls out can be chosen out of 5 balls & can be arranged in different orders.
Infact, 5C1x4C1x3C1 = 5C3 x 3!

15C3 is applied when all 5 balls are present during selection ie repeatation is allowed.but 5c1*4c1*3c1 is used when u select 1 ball out of 5 then 1 out of remaining 4 and then 1 out of remaining 3
495C3means choosing 3 balls from 5 balls altogether
while the other one means choosing one by one
as in second case we get more options it is no doubt more in number...
