googly from ATGS 14

a well known one, but still very amusing(i think this has been already been discussed but still):

An airplane has 100 seats, and 100 passengers were assigned seats. The first passenger enters the plane and rather than sitting in his assigned place, he sits in a random place. The next passengers come one by one and every passenger sits in his assigned seat if it is empty, and in a random empty seat if his seat is already taken. What is the probability that the last passenger will sit in his assigned seat?

due to lack of interest of any user...i am posting one of my LOGICAL solutions...

we can think like this..

a person comes and finds his seat filled up... so he negotiates wit the person sitting in his seat to leave his seat and go to some other place...

in this way the 100th person will find the 1st person sitting in his place and will find chair 1 vacant and will sit there...

else he will find person 1 sitting in seat 1 and chair 100 vacant..

thus 100th person can sit in either seat number 1 or seat number 100

thus probability is 1/2 of 100th sitting in 100th seat!

if u have understood this then we can proceed to the original problem as ........

the person does not negotiate but himself goes and sit in any other sit will also incur same result and the 100th person will see that either 1st place or 100th place is vacant and the probability will be 1/2!!
