1.A question paper is split into two groups -A and B.The groups contain 4 questions, each question have an alternative .The group B contain 4 questions.A student has to answer at least one question from each group and he can answer up to 8 questions. What is the probability that a student will answer 3 questions?
2.Each of the two persons makes a single throw with a pair of unbiased dice. What is the probability that throws are equal?
3.A hotel has 5 rooms for rental and they are always occupied. The owner has 3 TV sets available on the rental Rs 20 per day per set. Only one set will be applied to one occupant if he wants it.The chance that the occupant will want to hire a set is 3/5. Find the probability that the hotel owner will get Rs 60 per day by renting the sets.
4.Two person A and B agree to meet at a place between 11 noon and 12 noon. The first one to come waits for 20 minutes and then leaves. If the time of their arrival are independent and at random then what is the probability of a meeting between A and B.
5.A floor is paved with rectangular marble blocks of length a and breadth. A circular block of diameter c(c<a,b) is thrown on the floor at random. Show that the chance that it falls entirely on one rectangular block is (a-c)(b-c) /ab.
6.A plane is ruled with parallel straight line at equal distances of 2a.A needle,2l(l<a) is thrown on the plane at random. Find the probability that the needle will hit any of these lines.
7.If 1+3p /3 , 1-p /4 and 1-2p /2 are the probabilities of tree mutually exclusive events then what is the set of possible values of p is?
8.Items coming of a production line are marked defective (D) or non defective (ND). Items are observed and there condition are listed. This is continued until two consecutive defectives are produced 0r four items have been checked, whichever occurs first. Then
(a) the number of elements in the sample space___
(b) the probability of getting two consecutive defectives in the experiment ____
(c) the probability of getting at least two defectives in the experiment____

You simply run through all totals from 2 to 12 and determine the probability of rolling each

twice. So the answer would be (1/36)2+(2/36)2+(3/36)2+(4/36)2+(5/36)2+(6/36)2+

(5/36)2+(4/36)2+(3/36)2+(2/36)2+(1/36)2 = 11.27%

I would put it this way...

if both show identical values.. then the required probablity is

6/64

If different values are shown then... probability is

30/36x2/36

so the total prob is

1/216+10/216 = 11/216
