I think he means that you have to find those roots (of the given equation) whose sum is 5.
the roots of a polynomial are unique dude...
its not that u have roots having sum as 5 and some other roots having sum as 4 etc etc
the question is unclear
well..if b555 is saying ques is wrong..i really have to check it out........
give me some time plzz...
try like this..
the sum of 1 roots is not 5 bcos that means 5 will be a rooot...
similar;y sum of 4 roots is not 5 bcos then the 5th root will be -5 (sum of all roots here is zero)
now the sum of 2 roots is 5 or the sum of 2 roots is -5
if the sum of 2 roots is 5, then the real part is 2.5
a, a', b, b', c (where c is a constant)
we have a+a'=5
& b+b'+c=-5 (or vice versa)
aa'+(a+a')(b+b'+c)=0
so aa'=25
a=2.5+ix
so 25/4+x2=25
so = 5√3/2
So one root is \frac{5}{2}(1\pm\sqrt{3}i)
figure out the other roots now :)
