stuck with a basic dubt

I have a problem with a most most most basic question!!

If f(x)=x+1 and g(x)=x-2, then solve the equation,

|f(x)+g(x)|=|f(x)|+|g(x)|

the stupid answers given is x≤-1 and x≥-2...how is this possible???

a typo, it should be x < -1 or x≥2. When f(x) and g(x) are non-zero they must have the same sign i.e. (x+1)(x-2)>0. Checking the cases when f(x) g(x) = 0 is easy
