koi to rply karo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so
the ans is give that PH3 has pure orbitals....howzzzz it possible???/
the reason is given that the orbitals in PH3 are more or less at right angles to each other....so....the orbitals are pure
now thats a strange reason but a similar question came in iit jee 09
" In ammonia there are 3 bond pairs and one lone pair. The repulsion between lone pair and bond pair always exceeds that repulsion between two bond pairs. Thus the bond angles are reduced from 109o27' to 107o48',and the regualar tetrahedral shape is slightly distorted.
The hydrides PH3,AsH3 and SbH3 would be expected to be similar. However, the bond pairs of electrons are much further away from the central atom than they are in NH3.Thus he lone pair causes even greater distortion in the other hydrides.Th bond angle decreases to 91o18'.These bond angles suggest that the orbitals used for bonding are close to pure p-orbitals." - JD LEE
