Comprehension for 64-66
A compound A, C7H15Br, forms a grignard reagent with magnesium in anhydrous ether which can be hydrolysed by water and acid to give an optically active alkane C7H16. A when reacted with aqueous sodium hydroxide B(C7H16O) is formed, which is heated with copper metal to form C(C7H14O). C gives negative Fehling's test and a negative Tollen's test, but a positive iodoform test.
