Have you not explained the answer yourself?

and wow..

:P

seeing this quesitno, i got an idea for a brilliant question :)

Let me try to frame it for a QOD.. :)

not just that..

there is one more reason..

The distance is different

and force is inversely prop to distance..

so the closer charges will be pulled more :)

sir if close charges are to be pulled more how come a neutral thing feel a force rowards E field.........

first charges get redistributed on the surface of the closed sphere.. so in all the sphere is neutral but if you look at it in 2 halves it is not neutral..

so u mean to say it does get attracted when kept in non uniform E field

for most non uniform fields yes...

can anyone explain....how(means the distribution)of charges on the sphere......on a qualitative scale!!!!!

I have never seen the derivation for the whole thing...

but you can keep in mind one underlying principle for the same..

the charges will be on the surface...

And the electric field anywhere inside the metallic part will be zero...

Sometimes it is dependent on the cosine of the angle from the central axis parallel to the electric field...

and concentric rings will be of equal charge density....

For JEE, I think this much should be more than sufficient for you :)
