New Delhi, March 26: Organisers of the IIT joint entrance examination (JEE) announced today that candidates appearing in the test this year will be able to see their marked answer scripts on the JEE website, a step aimed at bringing transparency.
IIT Kanpur, which is conducting the April 10 JEE, will make available the scanned answer sheets on jee.iitd.ac.in.
IIT Kanpur director S.G. Dhande told reporters that any candidate could see the scanned copy of the answer sheets.
“This is the first time we have decided to put the scanned copies of the answer sheets on the website. It will be put out with a password access so that a particular candidate can access his answer sheet only,†Dhande said.
The announcement came at a time when the conduct of the IIT-JEE has come under the Supreme Court scanner. Lawyer Prashant Bhusan has filed a PIL on behalf of Rajiv Kumar of IIT Kharagpur, alleging irregularities in the test.
The PIL demands that the IITs provide carbon copies of the answer sheets to students at the time of the test and also put out the answer sheets on the website after the evaluation. This would help the students match the carbon copy with the evaluated answer sheets on the website. “We will not provide carbon copies of the answer sheets. This is not feasible,†Dhande said.
He added that the correct answers of the questions would also be published on the IIT-JEE website within two to three days of the examination.
Kumar had also demanded that students should be asked to blacken the ORS sheets by pen not pencil. This will rule out the chance of tampering in the answer sheets. Dhande said that this proposal might be considered next year.
