hmm...read the preface to dan brown's angels and demons..or is it the epilogue? i'm not sure but it explores this very very briefly.
mass and charge are the basic properties of matter.
just like charges which are of two types(positive and negative) which
have different and opposite properties(i.e. positive charge experience
force in the direction of field but negative charge in opposite
direction), did you ever think of the existance of an antimass which
would have different or opposite properties from that of mass(i.e.
repelling from other masses or which experiences a force whose
direction is opposite to the direction of gravitational field) or that
mass and antimass combine and destroy themselves to form no
mass or zero mass which exists in empty vacuum?
