there is a rule in naming the orbitals
for m=0 it shud be pz
and for m= +1 or -1 it can be px or py it depends on the user...
i dont think that pz lies in the xy plane..
Which od the following statement is correct for the hybrid orbitals
(A) s + py + pz---->sp2 orbitals lie in the xy plane
(B) ns + np3 + nd2 -----> results octahedral geometry of sp3d2 hybrid orbitals
(C) None
(D) All

so wat it pure depends on user how he names the p orbitals...it is his discretion to name anyone px,pyor pz isnt it??so???or am i wrong??is there any convention for iitjee???plzz reply soon
still nt very much convinced with the answer...akari can u possibly help.....think in terms of mathematics...naming is no matter...i can name any of the axes as x y or z...unless there is some fixed jee convention tho!![2]
akari can u help???or qwerty u??
it is given naa. we are talking abt the sp2 hybrid orbitals that are formed from s, pz and py hence it is obvious that it will lie in the y-z plane only..
(as the question mentions to consider py and pz)
It is true that m=0 is given for pz and ±1 can be given to any of px and py
ohh sry overlooked the q....i thot tht it says sp2 hyn can be 4med by s py n pz.. sry all due my gadhaness...[3][3][3]
