hello anyne??
i was just goin hrough ncert when i came across the fact
"basicity in group 5 decreases down the grup......while reducing tendency increses ....now how is it possible...
reducing tendency increases means it will it self oxidise...that means it can better donate electrons...now if goin down the group it can better donate electrons then how can basicity decreaes?????? pplzzz help

bhai group 5 is not nitrogen group, group 15 is..
Oxidation is better defined as an increase in oxidation number, and reduction as a decrease in oxidation number. Actually, the transfer of electrons will always cause a change in oxidation number, but there are many reactions that are classed as "redox" even though no electron transfer occurs. Reactions involving covalent bonds are examples.
Acid-base reactions are different. Basicity is the ability to donate electron pairs(Lewis theory), hydroxide ions or soluble hydroxide ions.
pritish did u get mah qustion???i dint ask wht it is??? i asked for an explanation yaar :P
Your doubt lies in the wrong definitions you know, or maybe incomplete definitions you know about redox reactions and acid-base ones. Read my answer again.
I'll elaborate. Basicity is the ability to donate electron pairs, not single electrons while reduction can take place without transfer at all, and reduction does not necessarily mean loss of pairs.
Basicity is measured by Kb while reduction by oxidation number.
f9...dats a definition!! can u gime sum oder explanation with ur definition ??
Nitrogen has a lone pair which extends its covalency to 4. It can transfer a pair of electrons acting as a base such as in R4N+(tetraalkyl amines).
pritish read wht u r writing...bahut jhari kat liya..aab plz answer pe aaeyga??
Jhari kaat liya? kitne baar bataun ki REDUCING TENDENCY aur BASICITY ko compare NAHI karte? lol?
