sp3d hybirsied hw can it b linear
i mean ya itz linear woh theek hai bt itz contadictin na
in sp3d I will have 3 unpaired electrons but its oxidation state is +1, so how it is possible.
hybridisation = no. of lone pairs + no of bond pairs = m
if m=2 then sp and structure is linear
m=3 then sp2 and structure is triangular planar
m=4 then sp3 and structure is tetrahedral
m=5 then sp3d and structure is trigonal bipyramidal
m=6 then sp3d2 and structure is octahedral
shape can be decided by putting the lone pairs in places such that stability will be more
if I has 3 unpaired electrons then its oxidation state should be +3, which is not possible
take this example ICl2- .. here I- can be considered to have valence shell of 8 electrons... 2 of these electrons are shared with 2 Cl... so remaining unpaired electrons = 6 so lone pairs = 6/2 = 3
