bcz germanium in undopped form act as a non-conductor
(since a non-metal) and band gaps in insulators are quite larger than in semiconductors
so according to me statement 1 is false ;
statement 2 is true as energy gap decreases on moving down the periodic table in grp 14.
please rectify me if i'm wrong !!!!!!!!!!!
