Q1 is more than one correct..
ans2 is rite..but i need reasons tooo....

Debotosh.. ·

for 2.....metals very low in the METAL ACTIVITY SERIES form weak oxides , which decompose on heating to liberate the metal !......;) this is very very basic

kkk.....well for me the basic things in inorganic too are difficult..i just done like this topic

1)a & c......
Waise, does ClO42- exist ? If it were ClO4- ,it won't show disproportionation as then Cl will be in its highest Oxid.n state, but ClO42- might show...Cl2 & NO2 will disproportionate fr sure....

Oh,.. i just talked about Ag & Hg in ur other thread, Decompose them if u can.... :P

Q.1) a) Cl2 + OH-( cold and dil. ) → Cl- + ClO-

Cl2 + OH-( hot and conc.. ) → Cl- + ClO3-

b) 3 K2MnO4 + 2 H2O → 2 KMnO4 + MnO2 + 4 KOH

d) ClO42- → ClO4- + ClO2.

SO , ANS. IS A,B, D

ans given is a,b,c

the disproportionation takes place for N2O4 as :

N2O4 + H2O \leftrightarrow HNO2 + HNO3

HNO2 and HNO3 are very strong acids. thus, if medium is alkaline, then further reaction might take place.

note: another way to think. the reaction is also :

N2O4 → NO+ + NO3-

and its a acid - base reaction , where NO+ are acids and NO3- are bases. thus, this reaction is independent of the medium used .

and in 'd' , the bases are involved, though not strong; but still the medium should be basic / alkaline.

Arrey...! Didn't notice it was a "Manganate" ion (Mn in +6)
(was thinking of permanganate all the time [3])

Sure it'll disproportionate..... to +7 (permanganate) & +4 (MnO2)

n i think tht aint ClO4 2- ,shud be ClO4- (Never heard of smthing of the sort of H2ClO4 wherein Cl is in +6....)
