Salt Analysis

Identify Inorganic salt (A) which is hydrated and light green in colour and gives following reactions :
(i) (A) decolorises acidified MnO4-and turns acidified Cr2O72- green.
(ii) (A) in aq. solution gives light green turbidity which dissolves in dil. Acid
(iii) (A) gives white ppt. with BaCl2 solution insoluble in Conc. HCl 2.78 g of (A) gave 2.33 g
of white ppt.
(iv) (A) → (B) + (C) +(D)
hot (blackish brown) (Oxides of sulpher )

(C) → (D)
oxidation
(C) turns acidifiedKCr2O7 Solution green

(B) +HCl → (E)
hot deep yellow
(E) +KCNS → red colour

Give explanation with proper reactions.

Fe2+ ion is green in colur in aq. solution and can be further oxidised to Fe3+
Sulphate ( SO4)2- radical reacts with BaCl2 to form BaSO4 which is white ppt ..mass of BaSO4 is 233g and mass of FeSO4 is 152g but in question we are given that mass of A is 278 that means that there are 7 water molecules attached to A
A> FeSO4. 7H2O
B> Fe2O3
C> SO2
D> SO3
E> FeCl3

2FeSO4 >>>>heat>>> Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
(A) (B) (C) (D)

SO2 >>>>oxidation>>> SO3

Fe2O3 + 6HCl >>>>>> 2FeCl3 + 3H2O
FeSO4 + BaCl2 >>>>> BaSO4 + FeCl2
FeSO4 + KMnO4 >>>>> Mn2+ + Fe2(SO4)3
FeSO4 + K2Cr2O7 >>>>>> Fe3+ +Cr2(SO4)3
green
