Statement 1 : Frictional forces are conservative forces.
Statement 2 : Potential energy cannot be associated with fricionless forces.

I'm not much sure with my ans........

Statement 1 is false but statement 2 is true ...edited...sorry i was little careless in reading the question

kk...btw u hav more experience than me,so cant argue [3]

its IIT dude...they can do anything....they can have remove one option out of 4 and put a new option of both false....

vaise i have seen both false option in assertion reason ques a few times

eure ..it wont make sense means none of the options A,B,C,D will be marked if both are false ....
unless they bring up a nother bubble E for us to darken it up !! lol

how 2nd is true ?

1 - false
2- true

misread the quest. edited #14

why both false wont make the ques sensible ??

i read the ques wrong !!!! [2]
but see the question shud be wat i hav misread ....bcz then both statements being false wont make sense ...

abhi isme mera kya galti hai ??? [2] i lose most of my marks jus bcz of making such reading mistakes [41]

OHHHH sorry sory guyz ....i read the second statement as
"Potential energy cannot be associated with frictional force"

I think statement 1 and 2 both are false ....
bcz for statement 2 ..we can giv example of gravitational force...wich is a frictionless force...and we hav PE defined for it ...actually PE is defined only for conservative forces ..

@ aveek ..how is 1 true ????how can frictional force be conservative ???

I think ans is both false

neone seen it ??

F,T

Since they are not conserved potential energy cannot be associated with it

eureka123 ·

so both false

I support eure, aare guys think logically, Gravitional and electrical fields have potential energies, but neither force has anything to do with friction.....So p.e. can be assosciated even with frictionless forces!

i will give a simple example to support my statement....

chain placed on rough table

2nd i guess is false,i will give a explanation, pls reply me so dat i can change myself.

See lets take one of our hand as a system, let us rub one of our hand against a rough surface, while doing this process,We will find that our hand gets hotter compared before, So thermodynamics says dat there must be some internal energy raised by the friction during the process is lost as heat energy radiated from the hand.

i think 1st-false,,,2nd-true.

eureka123 ·

how second is true????...we cant conserve energy ..tahts true....but we can apply ME thoerm..

23
qwerty ·

1 is false ....and 2 is true .....
and as virang said ...a force is conservative only if work done by that force in a round trip is zero...

Devil ·

Well this is again one of those vague qsns that FIITJEE comes up with sometimes.....Both false is not possible, eure! [4]

24
eureka123 ·

not too sure what word " associated " means here

but i would say both false

11
Devil ·

Are u sure abt the 2nd statement?

For checking whether it is conservative or not move a block from A to B then From B to A . Now if the work done by the force is 0 then it is conservative force
