the potential energ of the system is U = -GMm / r
the kinetic energy is K = 1/2m(orbital vel)2
= 1/2 GMm / r
the total energy is therefore , E= -GMm /2 r

In all these cases where force follows inverse square law,
K=|U|/2,where K=kinetic energy(positive) and U=potential energy(negative).
thus total energy=K+U=U/2
=> U=2(total energy)=2E0
The same property can also be used in electron-nucleus system as there also the electrostatic force of attraction obeys inverse square law.
