max extension occurs when the velocity is same for both the block at a particular instant .......

momentum conservation ....

3 * ( -1 ) + 6 * 2 = 9 * v

v = 1 m/s ->

now conserve energy ...

1/2 * 3 * 12 + 1/2 * 6 * 22 = 1/2 * 9 * 12 + 1/2 * k * x2

x2 = 18/k = 18/200 = 9/100

x = 3/10 m = 30 cm

wrt CM 3kg moves with 2m/s &6kg with 1m/s

by energy conservation

(1/2)*3*22+(1/2)*6*12=(1/2)*200*x2

x=30 cm
