take point of contact as (0,0)

and find the x component of the COM
if it turns out to be R/4 (it should turn out to be this)

oh k gr8 thnx........

but how did u get orig center of mass as da mid pt line joinin centre and mid pt of rod?????????

is it a prop or sumthing???

genereal dbt :

how do u calculate COM of such figures??????

1
skygirl ·

see, com of a rod.. is in its center.. and that sphere, is the center of the sphere..

so the com of the combination is in the line joining this two..

1
skygirl ·

and here it is given that mass of both are same...

so com of combination will be midpoint of the two ..

i hope u got?
