A Van is standing on a frictionless portion of a horizontal road. to start the engine, the vehicle must be set in motion in the forward direction. how can the person sitting inside the van do it without coming out and pushing from behind?

He will have to throw something in backward direction..so for keeping the com conserved the car will move forward

- Soumyadeep Basu If he walks towards the back of the car, how can he start the engine?
- Anurag Ghosh He has to do something to move the car in the forward direction to start the engine....so walking towards the back of car will start the engine.....
- Soumyadeep Basu I meant if he walked to the back of the van, how can he start the engine from there? Normally we start a car's engine in the front portion of the car. If he moves towards the back, the car will obviously get some forward motion but then who will start the engine?
