HINT: THE PATH COVERED WILL BE A STRAIGHT LINE
since its for the 10th graders i better not reveal further
There is a cone with height h & radius r. An insect at the bottom edge of the con needs to complete the journey around the axis of the cone. Find the shortest distance the insect has to cover.
this is the simplest problem here....
those who feel it is too easy do not post solution...[3][3][3]
to be true indeed this question is totally unfit for this section...bt still..try out..

more hint : roll a cone and u get sector !
yes it was NTSE practice question , very popular[3]
THE ANSWER IS STRAIGHT LINE JOINING TOP POINT OF CONE AND STARTING POINT
SO DISTANCE IS
2 TIMES OF √h2+r2

nvr mind....concentrate on this....think straight...hint see the link i will post recently see the whole thread...specially my soln in pg 2
think think...
n philip....there is only one case so far i solved...
n btw did u forget the spring string problem?? post the soln der....[3][3][3][3]
is the answer to one of the cases
\frac{2hr\pi }{\sqrt{h^2+r^2}} ?
cases????
wat??
hw???
n no i wnt post soln right nw..
well if philip does i have no objection...
p.s.- the answer may be a path whch is not shown in the figure....and u have to find the distance...not the path..[3][3][3]
The insect has to cover more distance when it uses the path whose distance from the centre of the base increases.
So the insect has to use the topmost path
X=√r2-d2
so greater the value of d , smalller the value of r
ya its easy
thats why i said that u shud post it in 10 sec
btw
i saw this q when i was preparing for NTSE in class 10th....so for same reason for 10th graders..
yes
it is easy...may be for 10th graders can also do this...may be not...thnk..no hints on ths...bt beleve me ths is really a good q...beleve me..[1][1][1]
