can u pls help me out in understanding the mechanism of preparation of alkanes using LiAlH4 and alkyl halide....... y can't LiAlH4 be used with 3° halide???

I think the compund you are talking about is Ph3SnH . it is used instead of LiAlH4. Then the rxn. simply follows Free radical mechanism.
The 1st one i think follows SN2 mechanism...not sure though.Now y it is not applicabe for tertiary alkyl halide is clear.. u got it ??

LAH and alkyl halide follows SN2 mechanism
tertialy being crowded do not give SN2 reactions
but with (n-C4H9)3 SnH it goes free radical mechanism
so tertiary halide can be reduced using this
