yeah..its false,,,this has been discussed over here so many times !! chlorination by free radical mechanism preferentially yields products chlorinated at primary carbons !

debo its true naa??

consider
reactivity of primary H = 1 and there are 6 of them so total = 6
reactivity of secondary H = 3.8 and there are 2 of them so total = 7.6

So 2-chloropropane is major product

hey...see there is only one secondary hydrogen atom !

sorry i was seeing propane only... yeah then answer is correct .... false

but even if it follow free radical mechanism......stabiliy of 3°>2°>1°......then 2,2-chloro propane shud be major product

First of all Nomenclature is wrong.
Now @biswajit: By free radical mechanism it's never necessary dat you will get only 1 product.. instead almost every reaction forms multiple products. By following free radical mechanism of alkanes (or alkyl halide, as in here), through observation ratio of product is setup which will bear upcoming halogen group at destined tertiary/ secendory / primary carbon. This ratio is already given above for chlorination.
Now.. similar ratio is for bromination. As far I remember it is : 1:: 84:: 1600 (something like that).. so you see, during bromination you can't compensate for requirement of tertiary carbon at all. !

for chlorination , p:s:t = 1: 3.8 :5
