19The rule of thumb for all the condensation reactions involving carbanions:
decide the acceptor and the provider of carbanion....that is done by observing the ∂+ charge on the carbonyl carbon.in the given example acetaldehyde is the provider and acetone the acceptor due to relatively poor ∂+ on acetone carbonyl carbon.....now just write the acceptor first as shown ....then join the carbonyl carbon of the acceptor to the carbanion of the provider ....make the carbonyl of the acceptor as -OH to satisfy valency of carbon.....that gives you the aldol
