Halogens are good leaving groups, barring fluorine, as well. In alkyl iodides, the bigger size of the iodine atom increases the C-I bond length, consequently making it easier to rupture during substitution. Iodine is thus a good leaving group.
The reason why Alkyl Halides undego substitution reactions is that C-Halogen bond is polar.
Electronegativity of C=2.5 and that of Iodine is 2.5 as well! So,how about Alkyl iodides?
