for alcohols has basicly two tests
(i)Victor Meyer test
1° gives blood red colour
2° gives blue colour
3° gives no ppt and

(ii) Lucas test
1° ppt is seen after 1/2 hour
2° after 10 minutes
3° after 3 minutes

(iii) Oxidation(or catalytic dehydrogenation)
1° gives aldehyde
2° gives ketone
3° gives ketone with one C less

for ethers we have one basic test
that is adding PCl₅ we get POCl₃ this is its test
