1. [3] MTG 32 yrs says C while BT says D
Q1. The spin quantum numbers +1/2 and -1/2 for the electron spin represent
(a) rotation of the electron in clockwise and anticlockwise direction respectively
(b) rotation of the electron in anticlockwise and clockwise direction respectively'
(c) Magnetic moment of the electron pointing up and down respectively
(d) Two quantum mechanical spin states which have no classical analogue
Q2. Rutherford's α scattering expt eventually led to the conclusion that
(a) mass and energy are related
(b) electrons occupy space around the nucleus
(c) neutrons are buried deep in nucleus
(d) point of impact with matter can be precisely determined
(although options make sure that (b) has to be ans as others wrong) but is (b) a conclusion of rutherford's model
Q3. Which of the following related to photons both as wave motion and as a stream of electrons?
(a) Interference
(b) E=mc2
(c) diffraction
(d) E=hν
Q4. A/R

Ans 1...D..says Arihant 30 years IIT-JEE..reason given..Plus and Minus signs only indicate the rotation of electrons around its axis in opposite directions. Hence two quantum mechanical spin states which have no classical analogue..
FIITJEE Archive says C..no reason given...
Ans 2..Rutherford α scattering experiment lead to the conclusion that nucleus is deep buried inside the atom..but on seeing the option only B seems to be correct..
Ans 4 ..second statement is incorrect..coz Nucleides having odd no. of protons and neutrons exist in nature like 14N7 ...but one can say that they are relatively less stable than nucleides containing even protons and even neutrons...
1. (D) Plus and minus only indicate the rotation of electrons around its axis in opp. directions. Hence two quantum mechanical spin states which have no classical analogue.
2. (B) electrons occupy space around nucleus. It is a fact.
3. (D) E=hv ( in form of particle and wave )
4. (C) A is correct since n/p ratio for 30Al13 is 1.307 that of 40Ca20 is 1.
But odd no. of protons and neutrons doesnot mean it is not stable, 23Na11, 27Al13, 40Mg18 are some of the examples of stability inspite of odd protons and neutrons numbers.
