Gaseous State

There are 2 containers having equal volume, temperature and total pressure. 1 contains 5 moles of N2. the other one contains 3 moles of O2 and 2 moles of He.For the same time-interval the gases are diffused outside. Find the ratio of rate of diffusion of N2 to the rate of diffusion of the other gasous mixture (O2+He).....

@Aditya, you have made the same mistake that i was going to make. are u sure that the rate of diffusion of O2 and He from the 2nd container will be the same?

U know Molecular wt of O2 is not equal to molecular weight of He..:)

i used Meffective = M1n1 + M2n2n1+n2

ya. by that method the ans wud cum .86 as u said. But see, thru an opening in the container u can't say that both He and O2 will come out at the same rate.

HINT: U have to apply the concept of Partial pressure..
