CaO + H2SO4 → CaSO4 + H2O
(56)........(98)...........(136)
BaO + H2SO4 → BaSO4 + H2O
(153)......(98)...........(233)
Let there be x g of BaO and (2.5 - x) g of CaO
153 g of BaO gives 233 g of BaSO4
So, x g of BaO gives 233153x g of BaSO4 = 1.5229x g of BaSO4
Similarly,
56 g of CaO gives 136 g of CaSO4
So, (2.5 - x) g of CaO gives 13656(2.5 - x) g of CaSO4 = 2.4286x g of CaSO4
Thus,
1.5229x + 2.4286x = 4.713
or, x = 1.49994
% BaO = 1.499942.5 = 59.97
Ans: 59.97 % of BaO is present in the mixture.
